Decorating Ideas for Elegant Shabby Chic Style
The
term "shabby chic" was made popular by Rachel Ashwell's
1996 book, "Shabby Chic," and it refers to a distressed,
vintage look. However, some decorators remember the style
and the term "shabby chic" from decades ago. The
shabby chic style glorifies the less-than-perfect. The
style is characterized by discarded and vintage furniture
and accessories. Tables with peeling paint and worn rugs
are often used to decorate the shabby chic home. The shabby
chic style is characterized by such colors as white, off-white,
muted greens, faded grays, and pastel pinks.
Unlike
the popular belief that elegant decorating is synonymous with
the accord and conformity of analogous segments, the shabby
chic decorating style throws out this notion. In the quest
of enhancing the looks of a home, one is supposed to follow
their heart more often than their sense of logic. In solving
a math problem, all the numbers would have to be somehow in
agreement with each other, but in accessorizing your home
this is not the case. Too much harmony and frills will only
create a tense atmosphere which is far from what we aim to
do with our home decorating ideas.
Look
for whatever brings peace to your surroundings. Select
subtle yet vivid colors to cover your furniture and remove
all the clutter than you feel is unnecessary and creates stress
points in the room. Try to start from the basics and take
your time in bringing your decorating escapade to an end.
Make
a list of accessories such as lamps, rugs and window treatments,
and start looking for the ones that agree with your elegant
shabby chic decorating model. We carry a whole line of items
that will only make your search easier and of course money
saving. You can find chandeliers, trays, candleholders, planters
and other accessories in different shapes, sizes and colors
suitable for any budget.
